How to eliminate the roadblocks.
When a road is closed we take a detour and avoid the roadblock. It seems simple when we think of roadblocks this way because we have signs guiding us around them. However, it’s harder to conceptualize when we put this in the context of health and fitness.
Can you think of a time when you were hyper-fixated on an issue and instead of searching for a “detour” around the issue you just stayed stagnant? I’m sure it wasn’t too hard... I can think of a handful myself.
Some issues that come up could be:
Not training because you aren’t sure what to do
Not training because you’re afraid of injury
Not training because you’re intimidated by the gym
Not training because you can’t get to the gym
Not cooking because you don’t like grocery shopping
Not eating at home because you don’t like cooking
There’re a lot of “roadblocks” we run into every day, but it’s how we respond to those roadblocks that make the difference in how we go through life.
*When possible we want to eliminate the roadblocks and create detours for ourselves.* That can be done many ways. Here are some examples of solutions to the problems above:
PROBLEM: Not training because you aren’t sure what to do.
SOLUTION: Purchase a program to follow and educate yourself.
PROBLEM: Not training because you’re afraid of injury.
SOLUTION: Hire a coach to learn proper form & technique while improving body literacy.
PROBLEM: Not training because you’re intimidated by the gym.
SOLUTION: Find a workout buddy to go with or hire a coach.
PROBLEM: Not training because you can’t get to the gym.
SOLUTION: Purchase a custom program that’s specific to your schedule and availability.
PROBLEM: Not cooking at home because you don’t like grocery shopping.
SOLUTION: Order your groceries online and have them delivered.
PROBLEM: Not preparing food at home because you don’t like cooking.
SOLUTION: Purchase pre-made meal services delivered right to your door.
There’s always a way around a “roadblock,” we just have to be willing to create or find another path forward. As humans we like to make things more complicated for ourselves, but we can simplify a lot by just taking a step back and eliminating the roadblocks.
Are there any roadblocks you’re currently struggling with in health and fitness?
