It doesn’t get easier, you just get better.

You know that feeling when you’re finally getting somewhere and someone comes in and moves the goal post back? I hear you, it can be annoying.

There’s this idea that there’s always a way to make things challenge you again. You may think of that “challenge” as a frustration instead of a gift, and you may even take it as a personal attack, like you’ll never be “good enough”. But, what if you looked at it from a different perspective?

Take a video game for example. You’d never want to be stuck on the same level of a game for months on end. Instead you’d want to continue to level up and progress through the game to get to the end goal. The same applies to your training. If you have a goal that you’re trying to reach (outside of maintenance), you want to be continually challenged.

*In my opinion, you should revel in the added challenge because it means you’ve mastered something and are now able to take on more and progress to that next level.*

Nothing is ever easy… if it’s not challenging you, you should know you’re capable of more. Exercises getting “hard” again means your body gets another opportunity to adapt and grow and improve. Looking at it from the standpoint of “I just got here and now I have to add to it?!” will only stunt your growth.

Getting to the next level means you’ve outgrown where you are currently and you’re ready to take on the new challenge. There’s no end point, there’s only growth and continuing to get 1% better week-over-week, month-over-month, year-over-year.

It doesn’t get easier, you just get better. Look at it from that standpoint and you’ll be excited for that next level, that next challenge.

Are you someone who revels in the challenge or likes to stay “good” at something? (There’s no wrong answer btw!)
